
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 1999) is an American actor and singer whose career spans over 40 years. London was a torch performer, known for her smooth, soft vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. Her recording of "Cry Me a River", a track she introduced on her debut album, was included in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her performance as Dixie McCall, a nurse on the television show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's career as an actor of 35 years began in film in 1944. It featured roles as the female lead role in a variety of westerns. She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the beginning of her professional career in music. Her final studio album was released in the year 1969. She continued to be a hit as the female lead in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she was with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her former husband Jack Webb.
