Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a channel that hosts videos, comments and an analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit website which explores representations of women in pop stories of culture. As well as working to highlight the problems surrounding the targeted and sexist attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes prevalent in pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in the fields of social thought and political science from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age she was intrigued by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to launch an internet program that would examine the gender roles in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. The harassment didn't hinder her. She was only able to strengthen her position in her role as a feminist journalist. As a result of the many contributions she has made to feminism, she is recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency as an educational organization that focuses on how women are represented in media narratives.
